Taxonomy Training
EMU Limited is now offering taxonomy training programmes for developing new taxonomists.
With the rapid growth of industries, such as offshore wind farms, and the continued use of the marine environment by oil and gas companies, aggregate extractors and fisheries demand for trained taxonomists is steadily increasing. However, traditional taxonomy teaching has fallen out of favour within the Uk’s Higher education system. There is potential for a bottleneck of commercial samples with insufficient taxonomists available to complete them.
EMU’s taxonomy courses are open to both universities (at whichever level is required) and private companies/individuals and will be tailored to the requirements of the client.
Key aspects of our courses:
- Practical tuition
- Introductory lectures
- A general introduction to taxonomy or a focus on taxonomically difficult phyla
- Course can be hosted by the client or run for small groups within EMU’s own laboratory
EMU has a team of taxonomists with over 18 years of experience covering a wide range of interests and skills. EMU is a member of the National Marine Biological Quality Control Scheme (NMBAQC), where we have achieved a consistently high standard over a number of years. In addition, EMU has an extensive faunal library and modern equipment available for use by course participants at our site. Our taxonomy training course can be tailored to your requirements.
