Sidescan Sonar Survey
EMU Limited’s Geosurvey Department has considerable experience conducting dual frequency high resolution sidescan sonar surveys independently or as part of a full geophysical survey. We use high specification digital sonar which utilises advanced signal processing techniques to create detailed imagery of the seabed. Our equipment is approved to meet IHO and NOAA survey specifications.
A range of different positioning methods are available, which include traditional ‘cable out’ methods or, alternatively, acoustic positioning of the towed fish via USBL (ultra short base line) systems.
EMU routinely deploy Klein (3000, 3900 and 5000) and Edgetech (4200 and 4700) fish but can accommodate any client requirements.
Stringent quality assurance procedures ensure that the highest standards are attained and maintained on every survey for the entire project lifecycle, from acquisition through processing to reporting and presentation of the resultant dataset by our experienced GIS team.
Sidescan sonar data is often interpreted in combination with other geophysical survey data types such as bathymetry information, magnetometer and seismic data. The seabed interpretation can be tailored to meet the specific project requirements that may include, but are not limited to, archaeological interpretation, unexploded ordnance detection, ecological assessment, aggregate resource assessment, wind farm and cable route monitoring and planning.
