Sediment Laboratory
EMU Limited's Sediment Laboratory provides professional high quality analytical facilities for marine and freshwater sediments, effluents, filter bed media, sludge bio-products and tracer studies. The particle size distribution of a product can be of paramount importance in determining its physical properties and stability. Our analytical range includes:
- Particle Size Analysis (Wet and Dry Sieving) - undertaken in accordance with BS1377: Parts 1 - 3: 1990
- Particle Size Analysis (Laser Diffraction) using a Malvern Mastersizer Micro – analysing particles within the range of 0.313 – 301µm
- Total Suspended Sediment (Based on HMSO Methods 1980)
- Sediment Tracer Studies
- Vibrocore Analysis (sediment and archaeology)
- Loss on Ignition / Organic Content
- Hydrogen Peroxide Pre-treatment of Organic Matter
- Sodium Sulphate Soundness Testing of biological filter bed media (BS1438: 2004)
- Biological filter bed/media surveys
- Freeze Drying of Sediments and Shellfish Tissue
EMU’s Sediment Laboratory is purpose built to cope with the broad range of analytical techniques undertaken. Our specialist team has the experience and capacity to cope with large contracts, short time frames and specific technical requirements to suit you.
PSA data is displayed in statistical formats using both moment and graphic techniques including the presentation of mean, median, sorting, skewness and kurtosis values.
We work closely with EMU survey sections to provide a comprehensive service for clients from inception to final report where required. We are happy to talk over any queries or issues you may have.
We are a UKAS accredited Analytical Laboratory. (See Quality Assurance) and participate in UKAS, BSi and NMBAQC schemes. All contracts awarded to the laboratories independently are treated as confidential. Data and information is not made available to other companies or internal sections unless permission is given. We are confident that all of our analysis (particle size analysis, laser diffraction, TSS, vibrocore analysis loss of ignition, sodium sulfate soundness testing, freeze drying and tracer studies) are of the highest standards to meet your requirements.
