FEATURES Oceanography Dept Awarded Southwest-coast Monitoring Project Apr 2007

EMU have recently been awarded the contract to install and support an array of 6 Directional Wave Rider Buoys, 2 Tide and Wave Gauges and a Meteorological Station at sites along the South West coast of England. The array will stretch from Chesil Beach, Dorset around the coasts of Dorset, Devon and Cornwall up to Minehead in Somerset. The project is part of the South West Strategic Regional Coastal Monitoring Programme, which aims to develop a long-term region wide coastal process monitoring and analysis programme by making real-time wave, tide and met data freely available on the internet.

EMU currently holds the contract for the South East component of the programme, stretching from Herne Bay, Kent to Weymouth, Dorset. When complete, the entire monitoring array will cover almost 1000km of the coast with EMU being responsible for the installation, servicing and maintenance of a total of 16 Wave Rider Buoys, 10 Meteorological Stations and 8 Tide and Wave Gauges.
