Dr Steve Freeman becomes Technical Director for the Consultanc team and Dr Dawn Powell is now appointed Senior Marine Consultant with the Consultancy team. The appointments have been made to meet the increasing deman from developers, decision makers and regulators for information on the sensitivity of regions and the environmental viability of proposed developments

Emu staff valiantly completed their 5k swimming challenge with almost 15,000 other swimmers in the 500 pools taking part across the UK. The team (Steve Freeman, Manue Hooper-Bue, Rose Buse and Ben Cross) raised over £100 for Marie Curie Cancer Care

The Emu Limited Consultancy Team has been awarded a Marine Aggregate Regional Environmental Assessment (MAREA) for the Anglian Offshore Region. The project aims to consider aggregate extraction on a regional scale. Only 3 of these studies have been commissioned to date and Emu Ltd are undertaking 2 of them making them the UK’s leading consultant in regional environmental studies. Project Director, Dr Bruce Tomlinson said “this is a very prestigious and strategically important project. The approach is ideally suited to the larger offshore wind farm zones in Round 3 and we are now very well placed to advise developers in this regard”.
OFFSHORE WIND NEWS UPDATE
Emu Ltd are about to start work on a new development project with Mainstream Scotland. Surveys have been completed on the Lincs wind farm area for Centrica Limited and on the Sheringham Shoal wind farm site for Scira Offshore Energy Ltd. Emu Ltd have now actively been involved with 11 new wind farm sites.
OIL & GAS NEWS UPDATE
Shell have contracted Emu Ltd’s geophysical services for work on their platforms off the coast of Holland and Gt Yarmouth, UK. Other new contracts include surveys with Nexen Petroleum UK Ltd and continuing work with Angola LNG providing ambient air quality monitoring services.
BUILDING ON SUCCESS
Emu Ltd has doubled the size of its headquarters at Durley near Southampton. Emu Ltd acquired an adjacent site to accommodate its expanding business and increasing numbers of staff. “Emu is very optimistic about the future. We have plans to expand our skills and increase the workforce very soon to take full advantage of the global need for offshore power generation and other marine activities where we enjoy a world wide reputation.” says Managing Director Simon Shaw.
Final Sweep For Napoli Clean-Up
The Napoli, bound for South Africa, was deliberately beached in Lyme Bay following damage by storms in January 2007. The clean-up operation was carried out in 2008 and Emu Ltd was contracted by Smit Salvage B.V to help with the final stages of recovery and salvage of the sunken wreck. Emu Ltd’s survey vessel was deployed to map the sub-seabed geology, providing essential information for the salvage contractors.
