  • Hydrographic Data Processor

    Expiry Date: 15 March 2012

    Emu Limited's Geosurvey division provides a comprehensive suite of integrated hydrographic and geophysical survey solutions to a wide range of clients operating in the coastal and offshore marine markets worldwide. Client sectors include renewable energy, offshore aggregates, oil & gas, cables and civil engineering. The department is currently undergoing significant growth and has an opening for a highly motivated individual to join our team.

    A vacancy exists within the Geosurvey for a full-time Hydrographic Data Processor. This position will be based at our head office in Durley, Southampton.

    The role will include the following responsibilities:

    • Processing and interpretation of high resolution hydrographic data; including multibeam bathymetry and sidescan sonar data.
    • Contributing to the production of technical reports and liaising with the GIS department to ensure the production of high quality charts and drawings.
    • Management and quality assurance of hydrographic data.
    • Assisting with project management and providing technical input to tenders.

    The ideal candidate will be highly computer literate and have a degree in hydrography or a related marine science discipline. Knowledge of geophysical survey techniques would also be advantageous.

  • Technical Director

    Expiry Date: 28 February 2012

    Due to expansion and organisational re-structure within their consultancy division, EMU Limited has an imminent requirement to recruit a Technical Director to provide strategic support within the consultancy department.  

    Reporting to the Consultancy Division Manager you will be a technical in-house lead and be responsible for managing a team of consultants at various levels based throughout the UK.

     Project Technical Direction

    • Ensure all components of a technical review or EIA are drawn together in a professional and consistent manner.
    • Make sure all new legislation is upto date and maintained and all consultants are aware of any changes to documentation.

    Project Management

    • Oversee the development of new projects such as offshore renewables, marine aggregates licensing and ports/harbour developments within the UK and overseas.
    • Find and implement new innovative methods to keep key project(s) on track whilst adhering to time and to budget.
    • Collectively manage a budget in excess of £1-2m across the consultancy division.

    Business Development

    • Engage with utilities, developers and contractors throughout Europe to enhance the portfolio within the division, enabling EMU to secure additional projects.
    • Regularly attend industry events and seminars to promote the company, engage with experts in your specialism and maximise opportunities.

    Technical Mentoring/Review

    • Provide support to consultants and assist them in achieving the next step in the process, ensuring the projects run smoothly and consistently according to agreed time scales.
    • Write up and prepare technical reports in respect of a new project for the business, an overseas project or research and development of a new piece of technology.

    You will have previous experience in a similar position with a track record in delivering high value CAPEX projects within the renewable energy industry, marine aggregates, oil and gas or environmental industry. You will be degree educated with a comprehensive knowledge of the consenting process for offshore development, site selection, marine legislation and licensing, cumulative impact assessments, zonal or planning assessments or offshore environmental impact assessment. Experience in managing and delivering human aspects of offshore impact assessment would be particularly advantageous.

  • MetOcean Scientist

    Location: Trafalgar Wharf, Portchester
    Expiry Date: 23 February 2012

    Emu Limited’s MetOcean Section is one of the leading UK suppliers of MetOcean services. Our clients range from local and national government agencies to international energy companies with on-going projects throughout the UK and internationally. The New Year brings new challenges and we are looking for marine scientists, with and without previous experience, to expand our team.

     Successful candidates will;

    • Have a good degree, or above, in Oceanography or a relevant discipline
    • Be keen to progress a career in marine science
    • Be keen to become involved in all aspects of the job; proposal writing, survey planning, equipment preparation, survey execution, data processing and interpretation, report writing, client liaison, marketing, project management
    • Have good time management skills
    • Show initiative in all aspects of the role
    • Have good teamwork skills
    • Be able to adapt their skill set to the demands of our metocean team

    The successful applicant will be expected to undertake frequent short-term survey work in response to on-going project requirements. They will need to be flexible to work both in the office and at sea. Survey work may include unsociable hours and occasional weekends/bank holidays.

    This position is envisaged as an opportunity for an enthusiastic person to join our team to progress their marine scientific career. They will be involved in survey logistical planning, a variety of metocean survey work, data processing and analysis, scientific report writing and project management including client liaison, financial management and project planning.
