CAREERS We currently have 4 vacancies: Assistant Environmental Scientist EMU Ltd provides environmental laboratory testing, survey and consultancy services throughout the UK and overseas and is a specialist provider of microbiological testing of recreational waters. EMU is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated scientist to join the Microbiology team based at the Hayling Island Marine Laboratory. Sampling duties will include routine microbiological testing of swimming pools and recreational waters in accordance with the BSI PAS39:2003 Code of Practice and EMU UKAS accredited procedures. Your role will include carrying out sampling and on site chemical testing scheduling, co-ordination of sampling and liaison with clients on site. You will also carry out other water quality fieldwork work, including coastal waters, rivers and wastewater sampling. Duties will also include carrying out laboratory microbiological analysis of environmental samples in accordance with EMU UKAS accredited procedures. The role will require flexibility in working hours, excellent organisation, time management and record keeping skills and candidates should enjoy driving and have demonstrated experience in dealing with clients. Candidates will be expected to participate in a weekend rota and will be required to hold a full UK Driving Licence. A scientific background and previous experience of microbiology testing or swimming pool water quality management would be advantageous, but is not essential, as full training will be provided. GIS Consultant A vacancy exists within Emu Ltd for a GIS Consultant to join our Geospatial Data Team. The position would be full-time and based at our Head Office in Durley, Hampshire. Salary will be dependant on experience. The candidate should have a degree/Masters (or equivalent) in an environmental or GIS discipline and relevant commercial experience in a GIS-related field. They should be capable of working independently as well as part of a team and be meticulous in their approach to work. SO32 1AH Closing Date: 25th June 2008 BENTHIC TAXONOMIST Emu are currently looking for a Benthic Taxonomist to join Emu’s long established busy benthic faunal identification laboratory. The Emu benthic team specialise in the processing of samples and the identification of infaunal and epifaunal communities in estuarine and marine waters around the UK and overseas. The Emu labs have been full participants in the National Marine Biological Analytical Quality Control (NMBAQC) scheme for over 15 years and have always maintained very high standards in taxonomic ability. The successful candidate should have at least a degree level in marine biology or related discipline, or alternatively, have achieved their taxonomic experience through working within this field. The candidate should ideally have at least 2 years experience in the identification of marine invertebrates from UK waters. Extra experience in overseas marine invertebrate identification is desirable. The role will include sample processing, faunal identification, data entry and possibly staff training. The post will primarily be laboratory based, however, there are opportunities for fieldwork in support of Emu’s ecological survey team. Salary is negotiable on the basis of experience.
