
Benthic Taxonomy Laboratory
EMU Limited’s Benthic Taxonomy Laboratory provides the full range of sample processing services required to generate meaningful community data from benthic samples. Core, grab and trawl samples are efficiently and accurately processed. Extracted fauna are expertly identified by well trained taxonomists.
We deliver contracts for a wide range of sectors which are either stand alone benthic taxonomy services provided within the department or part of multidisciplinary projects run in conjunction with other departments (Ecology/ Consultancy).
Our services include:
- Infauna and epifauna identification from marine and estuarine waters
- Experience of fauna identification from the UK and overseas (Mediterranean, Gulf, West coast of Africa)
- Species data provided in quantitative and/or qualitative format
- External taxonomy training workshops (link to taxonomy workshop page)
The benthic laboratory benefits from:
- Experienced taxonomists ranging from 3 to 18 years experience
- Participants of the National Marine Biological Association Quality Control (NMBAQC) scheme
- Modern high quality equipment including a digital camera system for training and providing images for reports
- External (Bsi) and internal audit processes which are undertaken to ensure a high quality end product (Quality Assurance)
- A master reference collection holding over 17,000 individual specimens
- An extensive library of taxonomic literature
