National Marine Biological Analytical Quality Control (NMBAQC) Scheme
The National Marine Biological Analytical Quality Control Scheme (NMBAQC) was initiated in the UK in 1994, with the aim of providing a form of QA and QC for the data resulting from the UK National Marine Monitoring Plan (NMMP). The aim is to assess of the reliability of data collected as part of the NMMP and, more generally, to improve the standards of marine biology in the UK
- The scheme organises and operates a suite of exercises including intercalibration exercises (ring-tests), 'own sample' analysis, sediment particle size methodology, biomass estimation and regularly holds workshops on sampling techniques, data comparison and taxonomy.
- The Scheme comprises a programme of macroinvertebrate sample, sediment sample and invertebrate specimen exchanges to a number of biological laboratories in the UK.
- This external quality control scheme applies to the Marine Ecological capabilities of the company. EMU has been participants in the scheme since 1996.
- The aim is an assessment of the reliability of data collected by biological establishments, whether governmental (e.g. SEPA, CEFAS, DANI etc) or independent consultancies such as ourselves, to improve the standards of marine biology in the UK. The Scheme was originally developed to provide a form of QA and QC for the data resulting from the National Monitoring Plan.
