Laboratory Environmental Analysis Proficiency (LEAP) Scheme

- The LEAP Scheme serves the water/environmental testing sectors
- The LEAP scheme satisfies the UK Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) requirements for the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulation 21 (2) (e) 1989 and the 1991 Private Water Regulation 19 (2) (e) for both chemical and microbiological parameters.
- There are five programmes available under the LEAP scheme. These are Potable Water Chemistry, Potable Water Microbiology, Potable Water Parasitology, Effluent, Waste Water and Contaminated Land and Emergency Contingency Scheme.
- The LEAP scheme enables our analytical performance in microbiology to be monitored against other laboratories throughout the UK, ensuring that the performance of our laboratory is of the highest standard.
- Every month, EMU receives water samples from the LEAP scheme which are analysed for tests including total and faecal coliforms, faecal streptococci, Sulphite-reducing Clostridia and colony counts. The results of EMU's tests are submitted to LEAP, who then provide a report on how our test results compare with the other participating laboratories.
- Throughout more than 8 years of participation in the LEAP scheme, our test results have consistently demonstrated a high quality of analysis.
